Just opened in the West Village is MidiCi, a Neapolitan pizza company with cooking styles of the old world, and decorative flair of the new. The center staged kitchen, known as “the heart” features wood-fired ovens, heated to nearly 1,000 degrees, to cook pizza in the original way the Italians did 300 years ago. The intense heat of the oven means lunch or dinner is ready in only 90 seconds! MidiCi features a unique indoor fixture – a live black olive tree – nestled within the dining area. The kitchen uses all natural ingredients and it shows. A must have is the Margherita pizza; tomato, fresh mozzarella, olive oil, and a touch of basil. The flavor bursts in your mouth with each bite and leaves you wanting more. As a post-Neapolitan pizza treat, don’t miss an espresso made from The Athena; a handcrafted machine that lets you hear each drop of delicious espresso as it creates perfection in a cup – just the way it is served in Naples, Italy.
McKinney Avenue in Uptown is hopping with new restaurants. One of the must-visits has a distinctive feature. Pl8 Bistro incorporates an art gallery, boasting multiple types of artwork from local and national artists. Like a particular piece? Take it home. All art is available for purchase. Pl8 offers dish favorites from all over the world on both their lunch and dinner menus. There is certainly something for everyone, from vegetarian and gluten-free options, to lobster mac and cheese, to a 16-ounce prime ribeye. Seafood lovers will delight in the Clams Casino – baked, stuffed Manila clams with bacon, garlic, bell pepper and breadcrumbs. There is one word for it: YUMMY! Keeping with the seafood theme, you absolutely must try the Bang Bang Grouper. Nothing short of amazing, the dish ties a little spice into the wild caught fish, with Szechuan sauce, sesame seeds, scallions and kimchi glaze. You don’t want to miss it.

Let’s talk tacos. Opening in the late summer/early fall is a one of a kind concept founded on the idea that tacos can be served without the accompanying Tex-Mex cuisine. Velvet Taco uses only the freshest ingredients, makes their tortillas in-house, slow roasts their chicken and corn, and makes everything from scratch, creating a taco-palooza of flavor in every bite. Opening in spring 2018 at One Uptown on McKinney Avenue is a concept from the Maccioni family, owners of Le Cirque. Circo will feature two floors of upscale dining along with a resort style pool area and day spa. The 180 seat main dining area encompasses the first floor, with a grand spiral staircase leading to the 70 seat lounge area, including a wraparound outdoor terrace. The highlight of the day resort is the two pools, one of which has a glass bottom, seven private cabanas, and more.
