Fort Worth Funkytown Foodie Hop

Fort Worth Funkytown Foodie Hop

Panther City, BBQ & the Best of South Main

Come hungry and get ready to eat your way through Fort Worth’s Near Southside, where nationally recognized Texas barbecue and creative local flavors come with a side of South Main history, street art and distinctly Funkytown stories.

Start at Panther City BBQ, the nationally recognized Fort Worth smokehouse that grew from a local barbecue trailer, for its signature Flacos Tacos—griddled corn tortillas layered with melted asadero cheese and house-smoked brisket. Keep eating at The Bearded Lady, Atlas and Tinie’s, where Fort Worth favorites, globally inspired bites and chef-driven Mexican cuisine showcase the independent food scene that has helped shape the neighborhood. With seven generous tastings across four independent restaurants, there’s plenty of food for a meal.

Between bites, your guide brings South Main and the Near Southside to life. Hear how an 1875 newspaper jab gave Fort Worth its famous “Panther City” nickname, uncover the story of the devastating 1909 Great South Side Fire, and see how historic commercial buildings have found new lives as restaurants, bars and independent businesses. Along the way, stop at standout South Main street art and hear the story behind it, then step inside homegrown Morgan Mercantile.

Nationally recognized barbecue, independent restaurants, street art and more than a century of Southside stories—all served up on one distinctly Funkytown food tour.
